SINGAPORE and Laos will enhance bilateral cooperation by tying up to combat transnational crime, thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of Public Security in Laos.
Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng signed the agreement with his Laotian counterpart Minister of Public Security, Mr Thongbanh Seng A Phone in Vientiane on Wednesday.
The MOU provides a formal framework to facilitate better understanding of challenges in the areas of combating transnational crimes.
It also supports bilateral cooperation and the exchange of information and expertise in areas such as terrorism, cybercrime, money laundering, drug trafficking, and the forgery of travel documents.
During the visit, Mr Wong, who was accompanied by senior officials from the Home Team, also met with overseas Singaporeans living and working in Laos as part of the national effort to engage the Singaporean community overseas.
Mr Wong leaves for Cambodia on Thursday.
