DESPERATELY seeking Singapore's happiest person. Does he or she even exist?
An optimistic Mr Philip Merry, 58, believes so.
'Everyone searches for happiness - be it success in career, in relationship, or in life. Some people may have already found it,' said the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Global Leadership Academy (GLA).
Mr Merry told a media conference on Wednesday that the happy person must be out there - 'infecting others with his or her sunny disposition.'
'They are the people with ready smiles no matter what, and with whom others want to be around,' he said.
He is giving Singaporeans until March 30 to track down this happy being.
Singapore's Happy must be above 18, has a smiley disposition and a strong sense of belonging, contributes to society, and 'is happy no matter what life throws at him or her.'
Mr Merry said he has received the first three nominations.
Based here since 1990, he noted: 'Having trained many top executives and managers around the world, one distinct trend I noticed is that despite material wealth and economic success, Singaporeans consider themselves less happy than many people.'
He said that there is a difference between being successful and being happy. 'Success is getting what you want. But happiness is wanting what you get,' he said.
Nominations of the happiest Singaporeans should be sent to happiest@simply-happy.com or mailed to 'Singapore's Happiest Person', GLA, Level 31, Six Battery Road, Singapore 049909.
