PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA - A FORMER Singaporean, who was wanted for murder in the Netherlands and has been on the run in Malaysia for 14 years, has been nabbed and extradited to Amsterdam.

The search by police for Chang Ming See ended last week when the 56-year-old was finally apprehended in Cheras, a suburb neighbourhood of Kuala Lumpur.

Chang was 42 when he was convicted of murdering a Dutch couple in Sneek, the Netherlands on Aug 23, 1995.

A court in Leeuwarden sentenced him to 15 years' imprisonment and on appeal, the sentence was increased by three more years in 1997. Back then, the Dutch legal system allowed those awaiting trial and appeal to remain free.

Chang escaped from the Netherlands while waiting for his appeal hearing to come up.

Malaysia's federal Criminal Investigation Department director Bakri Zinin said Chang, who was originally from Singapore, entered Malaysia with a forged passport after he fled the Netherlands -- THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
