Singapore wins first table tennis world title

SINGAPORE lifted its first table tennis world title in Moscow on Sunday night.

The Republic's team of Feng Tianwei, Wang Yuegu and Sun Beibei stunned mighty China 3-1 in the final of the World Team Table Tennis Championships.

Feng shrugged off a poor start against Ding Ning to give Singapore the lead. She beat the Chinese 8-11, 3-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9. Wang Yuegu then doubled the advantage for Singapore when she upset world No.1 Liu Shiwen 11-7, 11-8, 2-11, 12-10.
