KUALA LUMPUR: Star prosecution witness Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan has called a former Hospital Pusrawi doctor a liar for stating in his medical report that plastic was introduced into his (Saiful's) anus.
Saiful said he met Dr Mohd Osman Abdul Hamid Osman on the afternoon of June 28, 2008, and complained of pain in his abdomen and anus, and that he had been sodomised.
The witness said this under cross-examination by counsel Karpal Singh.
Referring to the medical report, when Karpal pointed to Saiful that Dr Osman had stated that plastic was introduced into his (Saiful ) anus, Saiful said he could not read the doctor's handwriting and he was lying.
Upon further cross-examination, Saiful said that he met Dr Osman for the first time on June 28 and he did not know why the doctor lied.
During examination-in-chief in February, Saiful told the court that Dr Osman inserted something into his anus but stopped when he confessed that he had been sodomised.
The doctor suggested Saiful should go to Kuala Lumpur Hospital as Hospital Pusrawi did not have the facilities for forensic examination.
Saiful said he finally went to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital about 3pm (June 28).
"I later made a report in the ward. This is where I met DSP Jude Pereira (the investigating officer). He was present when three doctors examined me."
Questioned further that the combined report of three doctors did not reveal any injury to the rectum and that there was no penetration, Saiful replied he had no comments.
Earlier, Saiful told the court that he met Datuk Seri Najib Razak at his residence in Kuala Lumpur two days before he was allegedly sodomised by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Saiful said he met Najib, on June 24, 2008, at his home in Taman Duta to relate his "problem" to the then deputy prime minister.
The witness said on the same day he met Assistant Commissioner Rodwan Yusof at Hotel Melia here and told him that he had been sodomised by Anwar several times.
He said he did not meet Najib after the alleged sodomy on June 26, 2008,
Karpal then asked Saiful if he was a good Muslim to which the witness replied: "I'm trying to be one."
The veteran lawyer continued to grill Saiful and asked whether he abandoned his obligatory prayers on June 2008 to which Saiful replied: "I have missed some when I was working for Anwar."
At this juncture Karpal made an application to the court to obtain copies of several statements recorded from Saiful to which senior Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden objected and wanted to know on what basis the application was being made.
"Very simple. He (Saiful) is not telling the truth," Karpal said.
Karpal said generally such statements of a prosecution witness could not be shared with the defence but there were exceptions.
Hearing continues today.
Earlier, judge Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah dismissed an application by the defence for a list of the prosecution witnesses.
