SHAH ALAM, MALAYSIA - The Selangor government has identified the people who might be responsible or have abetted the culprits who installed the spy camera in the office of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The menteri besar's political secretary Faekah Husin told a press conference yesterday that the faces and voices of the culprits were captured by the video camera found in the MB's office last month.

"During our internal investigation, we have identified a few faces familiar in this office. Some are supposed to be there (in the MB's office), while some are not supposed to be there.

"We don't intend to go into detail, but the faces belong to the people in this office, on this floor," she said, adding that at present, the state could not confirm if the people identified were responsible for planting the device.

Faekah stopped short of describing what the suspects were doing and what the voices which have yet to be identified were saying, but it is understood that the suspects were seen snooping in the menteri besar's office in the footage.

She did not deny the possibility that the suspects were contracted by Pakatan Rakyat's political opponents and described the act as "political mischief" and "unprofessional".

"If we really want to solve it, we will do our own interrogation to find out who their political masters are. So there is a possibility that we will handle this matter politically."

It is understood that the state's internal investigations have already located the shop where the spy camera was purchased.

Faekah said despite the latest discovery, the menteri besar's office has yet to decide whether to lodge a police report for the police to initiate criminal investigation.

"The task force (formed to identify those responsible for placing the spy camera) will meet again with the menteri besar today (Friday) to discuss the necessity of lodging a police report. However, the final decision will be the Menteri Besar's," said Faekah, who leads the task force.

Earlier, three police officers from the Selangor police contingent visited the MB's Office to discuss on security solutions for the office.

Faekah said they were shocked to find that security was so lax at the office.

"They were shocked when I informed them that there has been no changes made since we took over.

We are still using the same system and have the same staff.

"We feel that we have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but after this incident, in the future we have to be more careful."

The spy camera was found by Khalid early last month when he searched his office after hearing a constant beeping sound.

Khalid said he found the camera in a small gap between the curtains in his office while the recording device was under a cupboard.

The device is believed to have been installed to capture events and discussions between visitors and Khalid in his office.
