SOME people only get to play computer games, but Eric Yeo (main head picture) actually gets to create them.
Eric, 25, is an environmental artist with local video game developer Ksatria Gameworks. And his job is build the 3D environment that characters move around in for a new game called Lone Wolf: Flight From The Dark.
Eric believes his diploma from digital media institution 3dsense Media School helped him land the job.
He started work in August, after graduating with a digital visual effects and animation programme diploma.
Eric, whose dream is to be a computer graphic artist, became interested in drawing in kindergarten.
In school, art was his best subject and he regularly scored As for it.
After his O levels, Eric got a diploma in engineering informatics at a polytechnic.
But he was not satisfied.
So he joined 3dsense Media School.
His course was developed with the help of faculty advisers comprising renowned artists, academic professors and animators such as Mr Andrew Gordon from Pixar Animation Studios and Mr Markus Burki from PDI/DreamWorks.
"I decided to pursue my passion and even my parents encouraged me to go for it," he said.
"I had some background in art but still found it stressful. There was so much to learn, from animation to modelling to visual effects. We even had the chance to produce a short film."
Solid foundation
His film won him a finalist placing for the CG Overdrive 2007 Excellence Award (student category) and got him fourth place in the Digicon 6+3 (Singapore) competition.
Eric said the school helps students to build up their portfolios and sends them out to companies to apply for jobs.
He added that the course gave him a solid foundation in the field, enabling him to pick things up faster at work.
