Dress code for female teachers will send the wrong message

I REFER to the letter - Cane, but teach boys to turn over a new leaf? (my paper, Jan 31).

The letter mentioned that female teachers should be encouraged to dress appropriately, as "inappropriate clothing may be a source of distraction to our teenage boys". It also suggested that the schools introduce a recommended dress code for their female teachers.

Let's look at the issue from another perspective. If female students had touched their male teacher's posterior, does it mean that there should be a dress code for male teachers too?

I believe our teachers already know that they should dress modestly in school.

By calling for a recommended dress code for female teachers, we are sending the wrong message to our male students: That it is the female teacher's fault for dressing inappropriately and causing the students to misbehave.

These boys will grow up and enter the workforce eventually, and they will inevitably encounter women who may not be dressed 'appropriately'. When that happens, does it mean that the women are 'asking for it'?
