TWO Singaporean law students are part of a winning team that will represent the United Kingdom in a prestigious mooting competition in Washington DC.
Their team from the University of Oxford emerged victorious in the 2008 White & Case UK Jessup Finals held on Feb 24.
Having topped the national rounds, Mr Colin Liew and Mr Lijing Tham, both 22, are now busy preparing for the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition to be held next month.
It is the world's largest moot court competition attracting participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries.
The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries and the International Court of Justice, which is the judicial organ of the United Nations.
Representing both sides of the argument, teams have to prepare oral and written pleadings.
Mr Liew who won the Best Speaker Award in the national rounds, is also the co-author of well-known local food blog, Only Slightly Pretentious Food where he shares recipes and reviews of his favourite restaurants.
Mr Liew and Mr Tham, who attended Raffles Junior College together have no prior debating experience.
As law students at Oxford, they were drawn to the small-scale moots organised regularly by the different law societies.
