Tue, Mar 18, 2008
The Straits Times

A SCHEME to help needy students buy spectacles will be extended by nine months until Dec 31.

The Joint Spectacles Fund Sponsorship by lens manufacturer Essilor Singapore and the Health Promotion Board has helped 3,800 financially-needy students make spectacles to correct their vision.

Under the scheme, which began in April 2006, Essilor Singapore sponsors its high-tech polycarbonate lenses, and bears the costs for fixing these lenses.

The Health Promotion Board will give each student a $30 voucher that will help cover the costs of the spectacles frame and an eye examination by participating optical outlets.

There are 622 optical outlets participating in this initiative.
