NANYANG Technological University(NTU) has launched a new scholarship to encourage its graduates to do a doctoral degree programme (PhD) at the university.

The Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship is targeted at outstanding graduates or final-year students to get them to pursue a career in research.

Said NTU president Su Guaning: 'We seek to promote excellence in learning by giving the students a higher level of recognition for their academic excellence and leadership.'

'We want to recruit bright young research leaders of the future, especially Singaporeans, to come to NTU and launch their research career at NTU.'

The scholarship is open to students of all nationalities with First Class Honours degrees or equivalent at Bachelor's level, and a strong passion for research.

Funding will be provided for up to four years for the awardees and includes a monthly stipend, tuition fees and other allowances.

The bond-free scholarship, worth $212,700, will be funded by NTU.

NTU will give out a maximum of 30 awards each academic year.
