>SEREMBAN, MALAYSIA - Students from a school near Sikamat, here, received a scare when 12 female students from different classes and a teacher became hysterical and were screaming frantically during school hours yesterday. The 9.30am incident forced the headmaster and other teachers to assemble all the other students in the school hall before seeking the help of three bomoh.

When the bomoh arrived and began their prayers, several other students of different races also began screaming, forcing the teachers to take them out to separate classrooms to calm them.

A Form One student, identified as Amri, 13, said about noon on Wednesday, during an Arabic class, several students and a teacher began screaming hysterically.

"Classes stopped and we were then assembled in the school hall.

"We were not only confused, but also very frightened," he said.

He said the situation turned chaotic when suddenly the assembled students started screaming, one by one. Several teachers reacted by taking the affected students out into different classrooms to calm them down. It appeared only the female students were affected.

The situation returned to normal about 1pm.

Parents of the students were informed and arrived at the school to take their children home.

Meanwhile, state Education director Abdullah Mohammad confirmed the incident, but said he had yet to receive a detailed report on the matter.

He also said the afternoon school session went on as usual and three officers from the state Education Department were sent to the school to monitor the situation.
