I want to study. Will you give me a chance?

"I want to study. Will you give me a chance?"

These were the words of a polytechnic student, who claimed he got expelled because he missed his exams twice, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

The 18-year-old had missed the first exam because he was sick and the second because he got the time of the paper wrong.

However, the first-year student hopes that the school would give him another chance.

The school's defence

In an email reply to Lianhe Wanbao, the school's spokesman said that the teen had failed four of his major modules during his second semester.

The school decided to give him a chance by letting him re-take his exams, but he only showed up for one.

The school continued by saying that it had given the student four chances to re-take one particular exam paper, but he still could not pass the subject.

"As he is unable to meet the demands of his discipline, the school has no choice but to expel him. We suggest that the boy contact the school's course advisor to find out other study opportunities", added the school.

"I admit my results have not been ideal. Before the exams, I brought up the issue of switching to another study discipline to the course advisor, but he said I had to sit for the exams first," he told the Chinese daily.

According to the teen, he had failed the previous semester's exams. As such, he was under pressure to pass the current exams or face expulsion from the school.

However, he did not expect such an exam fiasco to happen.

The boy said that he had fallen sick and had taken a medical certificate on the day of his main paper.

When it came to sitting for the supplementary paper, he had, in a moment of folly, thought the exam was scheduled for the afternoon when it was supposed to be held in the morning.

After he discovered his mistake, he contacted his teacher immediately, but was told to wait until the results were released before discussions could proceed.

Little did he know that he would be expelled, continued the report.

The teen had pleaded with the school to exercise discretion in light of the circumstances and to let him re-take the exam as he had confidence that he would be able to pass.

However, the school refused.
