BESUT: Many mathematics and science teachers have misused the reimbursement programme for important subjects (BISP), meant to improve their command of English, for other purposes, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk Razali Ismail.
He said the reimbursement was meant for teachers to buy books or attend English tuition.
"However, they used it for other purposes. That is why their command of the English language hardly improves.
"They have to change their attitude and use the BISP accordingly," he said after meeting principals, headmasters and senior assistants from Besut district yesterday.
He said mathematics and science graduate teachers were entitled to the BISP, which was equivalent to five per cent of their salary, while that of diploma teachers was 10 per cent of their salary. -- Bernama
