Last Tuesday morning, Keertika Dana's playtime with her best friend in one corner of their classroom in Punggol Central Education Centre took a deadly turn.
Her best friend saw a paper cutter with its catch off on a table a few metres away, took the exposed blade and slashed her twice on her left leg, reported The New Paper.
The English tabloid also reported that the girls' teacher, said to be in her 20s, "apparently burst into tears and panicked when she saw what had happened to the girls".
Keertika's wounds - about 4cm long and 2cm wide - were deep enough to need stitches in hospital. The doctor also gave her a prescription for seven days of paracetamol for her pain, reported The New Paper.
Meanwhile, a spokeman from the education centre told The New Paper that Keertika's teacher has been counselled while her friend will also receive counselling to make sure she is coping psychologically. A special committe has also been formed to look into the incident.
