>MALAYSIA - Blindness has not stopped Noor Izati Meor Samsuddin from excelling in her studies. The 20-year-old, who is a Universiti Malaya undergraduate, admits that her journey has not been an easy one.

"It was difficult in the beginning because I needed help to find materials for my classes but my teachers and friends were supportive."

Yesterday, Noor Izati received a certificate of appreciation

from the Society of the Blind Malaysia for her outstanding STPM results of 2As, 1B and 2Cs.

Another recipient was Muhammad Idil Idris, who found out he was colour blind when he was in Year Six. Despite his disability, the 18-year-old represented Terengganu in several poster-drawing competitions.

Muhammad Idil scored 11As and 2Bs in his SPM.

SBM president Mah Hassan Omar said the blind folk can be successful in life by excelling in their studies.

"There are plenty of jobs for them in the insurance, banking and business sectors, as long as they have the qualification ."
