I am a facilitator in a private institution. For 2 years i have tolerated so called 'teachers' who make a mockery out of the profession. I teach in an English department in a university. Some so called lecturers are barely out or their twenties and in my opinion are not qualified nor have the experience to teach students. Not only that, the so-called coordinators are never on time and take MCs like its a game. One day they are at work and the next day, they disappear. There are some days when i walked by classrooms with students waiting, but no teacher in sight.
Apart from playing 'hide and seek' at work, these impersonators take advantage of freedom at work by clocking in in the morning and disappearing for the whole day, only coming back before 5 and clocking out. It is indeed disheartening to work in an environment where some stick to the rules and others just blatantly abuse it. My concern is, what is happening to the students when the teacher's absence is so apparent during the week? At the end of the day, everyone is equally compensated in terms of increment.
Either the management absolutely has no idea what is happening or is blinded by the abuse or don't bother. I am wondering, is there some sort of yardstick when employers recruit teaching staff?
Our students deserve better.
