KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: School leavers are spoilt with scholarship choices with the coming Facon Education Fair 2009.

Kolej Damansara Utama (KDU) marketing manager David Tann said that KDU planned to offer several scholarships to deserving students. One of them is the sports scholarship.

"It is open to students who excel in any kind of sports. They need to have good leadership skills to be eligible for the scholarship," said Tann.

KDU, known for its hospitality and tourism courses, has some 2,500 students.

Meanwhile, UCSI (University College Sedaya International) aims to enhance student employability despite the economic slowdown.

UCSI has collaborated with over 600 corporate firms.

Many students have been sent for industrial training at one of the companies.

"Most of our students are attached to the firms they have worked for during their internship.

"There are many opportunities, they just need to excel in their studies," explained the local marketing head Lim Boon Wah.

The annual fair is a one-stop solution for parents and students to explore academic and scholarship options from higher learning institutions.

The fair will feature more than 500 participating institutions, locally and abroad.

Expect to see booths from institutions like Blue Mountain Hotel School of Australia and Shimane University of Japan.

Public universities include Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, as well as private ones like the Multimedia University and Uniten are expected to participate.

The fair will kick off on March 14 and end on March 23 in Malacca. It will also be held in Alor Star, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Baru, Kuching, Sibu, Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
