Singapore and China will sign another Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further boost their cooperation in the field of education.
The first MOU between the two countries was signed in 1999 with the aim of shifting education away from examination-oriented learning to fostering creativity and encouraging lifelong education, said a previous report in The Straits Times.
This time, the new MOU will improve collaboration in areas such as school twinning - where a local school is paired with a foreign school - and teacher-exchange programmes.
Signed earlier today between Singapore's Education Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen and his Chinese counterpart Mr Zhou Ji, the MOU also called for strong government support on both sides for the partnership between Singapore's fourth varsity and a top Chinese university.
The progress of the new collaborations will be reviewed and monitored by a joint working group made up by senior officials from Singapore and China's education ministries.
