Do you really know me?

By Amanda Tan

Just when you thought it could not get more self-indulgent, a new series of personality quizzes on Facebook proves you wrong.

The latest entry, the How Well Do You Know Me quiz has got everyone on the social networking site buzzing.

'Everyone is doing it,' said Lai Si Ying, 15. The Secondary 4 Holy Innocents' High School student said: 'Just log on and it's on everyone's profiles.'

This latest one allows users to create a mini-questionnaire about themselves, akin to personality quizzes commonly found online or in lifestyle magazines.

Questions range from what colour one likes to who one has a crush on.

According to Si Ying , there are so many versions that it is hard to keep track of how many have sprung up.

'At least 50 of my friends have created their own. I have, too. It's just for fun, most of us just want to see if the people you expect would know you best, really do,' she said. Most teens IN spoke to, such as 15-year-old Yen Chun Ting, said that they found the quiz entertaining.

The Secondary 3 student at Chua Chu Kang Secondary School said: 'You realise that you actually don't know some things about your friends which you thought you knew.'

But she didn't think that the quizzes had to be a test of friendship. Others agreed they had to be taken with a pinch of salt, like any quiz on Facebook.

Most are just tickled at finding out they didn't know their pals as well as they thought they did.

Like Si Ying puts it: 'In fact, I scored quite low in many of my friends' quizzes. However, I don't take it to heart even though for some, I expected to score higher. I guess this is just a way for me to find out things that my friends haven't told me before.'

You can't even expect the quizzes to be accurate, said 14-year-old Ryan Teo.

'Half of the answers are random things that people put for fun. You can't expect people to reveal their secrets or what they actually think,' he said.

However seriously you take it, youths like Gideon Foo, 17, say it is a useful way to express themselves.

The Holy Innocents' High School student said: 'People can get to know me better through this quiz. I'm quite a reserved person and I usually don't openly express myself and my interests. This quiz brings out my personality and others can get to know me better.'
