The New Straits Times

KUALA KEDAH, MALAYSIA: A Year Two pupil has claimed that he is suffering from blurred vision in the left eye after a teacher allegedly threw a ruler at his face.

Mohd Najib Shapiol Amizan, 8, said the teacher became angry after he answered a question wrongly.

"The ruler hit me in the left eye and it turned red shortly after," Najib said at his home in Taman Kota Nelayan here yesterday.

The pupil claimed many of his classmates at SK Seberang Nyonya witnessed the incident at 9.30am on Monday.

He related the incident to his brother, Mohd Naim, a Year Five pupil at the school.

Naim informed their parents of the incident and they fetched Najib from school before taking him to a government clinic for treatment.

The parents met the teacher the same day but the matter was not resolved.

"I don't think she understood them as they could not speak properly," said Najib.

The parents then took their complaint to the village development and security committee.

One of the members later took them to the police station where a report was lodged.

State Education Department director Shahidan Abdul Rahman could not be contacted for comment.
