Discontinue volunteer priority scheme for P1 places

I REFER to last Monday's letter by Ms Ho Sulin, 'Review volunteer priority for P1 places', and would like to add the following observations.

The transparency of the parent volunteer scheme has long been in doubt and a cause of unhappiness. The very basis of the scheme is questionable.

These parents are not 'volunteers' and are only trying to reserve places for their children in certain schools. This is volunteering for the wrong reasons.

What effect will such a scheme have on the offspring of the volunteers and society in general? It will teach future generations that everything has a price.

Therefore, such schemes should be discontinued. It will be good for the moral fibre of the people.
