Sin Chew Daily reported that 194 Chinese primary schools nationwide were facing overcrowding.

It quoted Jiao Zong (United Chinese School Teachers Association) as saying that the number of students in each school had exceeded 1,050, the maximum allowed by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

The situation was worse in Johor and Selangor.

The over-enrolment was affecting the teaching and learning process as well as the running of the schools, it added.
