KLANG, MALAYSIA: A senior lecturer with the Multimedia University was charged at the Sessions Court yesterday to soliciting a RM800 (S$330) bribe from a female student in return for better grades in her examination.

Dr Krishna Prasa Pramulapati, 52, an Indian national, claimed trial to taking the bribe from S. Kumalini Devi, 24, as an inducement to pass her Algorithm Analysis paper dated June 22.

He allegedly committed the offence at room FIT BR 4020, Block B, Information Technology Faculty Universiti Multimedia, Persiaran Multimedia in Cyberjaya, at 5pm on June 24.

DPP Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission proposed bail at RM10,000.

Counsel Arunan Selvaraj pleaded for a lower bail of RM5,000 as his client was a foreigner and his wife was in Sri Lanka, adding that he had no family members here.

Judge Yong Zarida Sazali granted Krishna RM8,000 bail in two Malaysian sureties and fixed Aug 3 for mention.

Dr Krishna posted bail.
