The New Paper
AND EXCEPT...

THE students got the message.

But it appears one person fell through the 'network'.

Presbyterian High School students were called by their form teachers on Sunday evening and told to stay home for home-based learning.

The school decided to close for a week after a teacher tested positive for the Influenza A(H1N1) virus on Saturday.

When The New Paper went to the school in Ang Mo Kio yesterday, no students turned up between 6.30am and 7.30am, as they normally do.

But Ms Yue Kai Ling, 28, who works in the school's canteen as a dishwasher, turned up at the school gate around 7am.

She looked confused when she found the gate shut, and walked off only after a security guard told her to go home and check with her direct supervisor.

She told The New Paper that she had not been informed of the closure and was unsure whether she had to work yesterday.

That she did not have a handphone could explain why she was kept out of the loop.

There were no notices or signs about the closure, but a half dozen teachers and security guards were posted at the gates to inform anyone who showed up about the closure.

Disinfected

One teacher told The New Paper that the school had been disinfected by workers on Sunday evening.

The principal of Presbyterian High School, Mr Lim Yan Hock, said form teachers had called up every pupil in their classes on Sunday evening to inform them of the postponement of the school's re-opening to next Monday.

An SMS from an unknown source had also been circulating among the student body about the reasons behind the school's closure.

It had instructions for students to pass the message around, and to tell their parents.

The SMS also encouraged students to monitor their temperature twice daily, and gave details on how to assess their homework online.

'The well being of all staff and pupils is paramount,' the principal said.
