Hysteria chaos in campus

MARAN, MALAYSIA: Orientation ceremony for 1,000 new students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Jengka on Tuesday descended into chaos when dozens of female students got hysterical.

The students were gathered at the main hall on campus for a motivational talk about 6pm when a girl fainted from exhaustion.

Some other girls near her began screaming and running around in a panic, leading to rumours they were seeing ghostly apparitions.

A male student, who declined to be named, said they were seated in the hall in dead silence listening to the talk when suddenly the group of women began to scream at the top of their voices.

UiTM deputy director (Student Affairs) Muhammad Mokhtar said the incident was an isolated case.

"Fourteen undergraduates were taken to the Jengka hospital for outpatient treatment while 32 were treated at the campus medical centre.

"All have recovered and resumed their orientation programme."
