KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Counsel-ling is the choice of parents for disciplining students in schools. This was the result of a New Straits Times online poll conducted last weekend.

More than 470 respondents felt this was the most effective way to discipline misbehaving students in schools, while nearly 400 felt that community service was the best method.

More than 360 respondents chose public caning as the most effective discipline method, while 175 thought this was the best way .

Only 82 thought suspension should be carried out as a disciplinary method.

The poll also found parents were concerned about the quality of teachers. More than 350 felt this was their main concern, followed by the level of discipline and the safety of their children in schools.
