Reading raises quality of life for book-lovers

my paper

I REFER to the report, 'Four in 10 here into reading as hobby' (my paper, Sept 1).

Reading is beneficial as it grooms readers to be better writers and speakers.

It also allows their imagination to flourish and thus improves their creativity.

The key to making reading an engaging hobby is to keep it adventurous and fun.

Reading provides unlimited opportunities to improve one's quality of life. It helps readers improve their vocabulary and widen their knowledge.

Good books feed readers' minds with a wide spectrum of ideas, values and viewpoints, which help them understand and appreciate the finer points of important issues.

Parents should develop a love for books in their children from a young age by reading to them every day.

This is the best gift they could give to their kids as it would give them a headstart over other children in school.

It is also a gift that would last a lifetime and help their kids become successful adults.
