Teacher criticised for setting bad example to students

Are teachers who hold hands outside of school sending the wrong message to students?

A passerby sent in photos of a teacher and a man believed to be her boyfriend holding hands just outside a secondary school near Upper Paya Lebar road.

The photos were emailed to online citizen journalism website, STOMP.

It was not clear how the contributor knew that the lady was a teacher at the school, but the article alleged that the act "sets a bad example" for students.

However, some netizens argued that teacher's actions were harmless and "no big deal".

Should teachers refrain from indulging in such activities even they are "off-duty"?

Past controversy surrounding teachers' professional vs private lives:

Teacher posts her "Ah Lian" photos on blog
Primary school teacher posts photos of her in barely-there bikinis.

'Teachers can't do as they wish'
Teachers should not bring disrepute to the profession or compromise their role as teachers, says MOE.

'She chose to be teacher, so she has to be role model'
Parents divided as to whether a teacher should have posed for such revealing pictures.
