Student smokers must be dealt with

IT IS not uncommon to see girls and boys in school uniform smoking openly, even near their school.

Schools should conduct regular surprise checks for cigarettes on students, and disciplinary teachers should go on rounds near their schools to catch students who smoke.

Repeat offenders should be dealt with more harshly.

Perhaps the Ministry of Health should also ban cigarette sales near schools and in convenience stores patronised by teens.
