The Ministry of Education (MOE) has said in a statement that it plans to build 18 new schools and enhance up to 80 existing ones in phases.

This is so as to move all primary schools to a single-session model by 2016, to improve the quality of primary education.

According to the statement, the single-session model would allow schools to provide 'greater flexibility in time and space for a more holistic education'.

The first phase starting will see 11 new primary schools being built and another 28 existing schools upgraded from Nov this year.

Schools to be upgraded will also be provided with indoor sports halls. This is to give students more opportunities to participate in sports and games at any time of the school day.
