Reduce class size for pupils' benefit

I WELCOME the move by the Education Ministry to build 11 new primary schools and upgrade 28 existing ones, as part of a plan to move all primary schools to single session by 2016.

I hope that the number of pupils in a class could also be reduced. With a more manageable teacher-to-pupils ratio, pupils can get more of a teacher's focus and attention.

Nevertheless, it boils down to the number of teachers available and their workload. Perhaps administrative duties and other non-teaching assignments could be handled by admin staff or teacher assistants.
