After accidentally tripping over his student, a teacher not only did not apologise - he went on to stamp on her a few more times before telling her off.

According to Shin Min Daily, the incident happened at a primary school in Yishun on Sep 28, at about 1.30pm.

Mr Cai, a 48-year-old security supervisor, told Shin Min that the teacher made his granddaughter sit on the floor to punish her for talking in class.

"She was made to sit right in front of the blackboard, near where the teacher was teaching. When a piece of paper belonging to a classmate flew to the floor, she crawled over to pick it up. The teacher backed away from the blackboard then and accidentally stepped on her leg."

Mr Cai says his granddaughter was startled, and moved away to sit back on the floor.

"Instead of checking if she was hurt, her teacher flew into a rage and stamped hard on her a few more times, and even told my granddaughter angrily that she deserved it."

After venting his anger on her, the teacher continued teaching as if nothing had happened, and his granddaughter, too scared to react, simply kept quiet and continued sitting on the floor.

Upon reaching home, she still did not tell her family about the incident. Mr Cai only discovered her abrasions and bruises when he was bathing her in the evening.
Seeing that her injuries were relatively serious, Mr Cai brought her to consult the doctor and to lodge a police report.

Mr Cai said that he was initially skeptical as well, but his granddaughter's account of the incident remained consistent through several re-tellings to him and the police.

Slapped by a teacher last year

He also says that his granddaughter was also slapped by a teacher last year, and the issue was already resolved with the school; but with this second case, he fears for his granddaughter's safety in school.

The school in question told Shin Min Daily that the matter is under police investigation, and they are giving the student all the help and support they can provide.

Regarding last year's slapping incident, the school says it was a misunderstanding, and they have given the family a satisfactory response.
