Virtual PE

MS LEE YUEN KAY: "I am appalled and outraged by the report ('Wii, it's time for PE', last Saturday) that the children at North Vista Primary are getting a virtual physical education instead of sweating it out by doing
something really physical.

In an already too academically driven education system such as ours, PE is one of the few outlets where children can get some reprieve from books and build character, and mental as well as physical strength through sports.

To get the students to spend 40 per cent of that precious time in front of a TV console? What is the school thinking?

These digital natives do not need to spend more time on digital devices. It is precisely because they do not have access to basketball courts at home that they should spend more time on the court when they have the
opportunity to do so in school.

Love for an active lifestyle and passion for sports have to be cultivated from young.

Get them out there and run them around. Let them be children."
