No penalty for wrong exam hint
Thu, Nov 12, 2009
my paper

I REFER to the letter, "Incorrect hint in O-level paper" (my paper, Nov 5) by Lim Yao Jie.

Yao Jie sat for the recent O-level Computer Studies examination.

He noted that there was an error in the "hint" provided in one of the questions.

The invigilators who were alerted by candidates reported the incident to the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).

As the examination was ongoing, SEAB instructed the examination centres to advise candidates to continue with the paper.

This was to minimise disruption and ensure standardised conditions across all examination centres.

SEAB has reported the incident to Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

CIE has indicated that it would take the error into consideration when marking the scripts.

It has further given its assurance that candidates who had interpreted the "hint" differently would not be disadvantaged.
