Sexuality education
A LIST of external agencies that schools can hire to conduct sexuality education programmes will be released early this year.
MOE started vetting and approving such agencies last year after a sexuality education programme conducted in schools by the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) was found to have gone beyond the guidelines set by the ministry.
The basic instructor's guide for the Aware programme, a copy of which was posted online, contained lines which condoned homosexuality and stated that anal sex was 'healthy' if consensual and done with a condom.
The changes mean that schools, which used to have the autonomy to hire external providers of sexuality education programmes, now have to choose from the list provided by the ministry.
A review of MOE's sexuality education curriculum is expected to be completed by the second half of the year. The review is conducted by a steering committee headed by director-general of education Ho Peng and will involve experts such as staff from the Health Promotion Board.
