School posting based on merit and vacancy

A Ministry of Education (MOE) spokesman said Mr Singh's daughter was posted to Chestnut Drive Secondary School based on her PSLE results and because it was one of her school choices.

She was posted to the Normal Technical (NT) stream in the school - her sixth choice. She scored 87 points for her PSLE.

The PSLE cut-off to enter the NT stream in Greenridge Secondary School and Zhenghua Secondary School is 98 and 110 points respectively this year.

The MOE spokesman said: "A pupil who has performed better in the PSLE will have priority over another pupil who has not performed as well, subject to the availability of vacancies in the schools chosen.

"The first pupil will be admitted to his school of choice, subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected school.

"The second pupil will then be considered. If there is no more vacancy, the second pupil will be considered for his next school of choice, again subject to the vacancies available in that school."

For those who wish to appeal for a transfer from their posted schools, MOE will facilitate appeals involving reasons such as serious medical problems, special needs (like dyslexia and mild autism spectrum disorder), or pupils whose addresses have changed in early November. This is subject to vacancies in their chosen schools.

But for other reasons, they should apply directly to their schools of choice.

In Mr Singh's case, the spokeman said MOE has referred the appeal to Greenridge Secondary School and Zhenghua Secondary School and Mr Singh's daughter has been placed on the waiting list of these schools.
