A MONGOLIAN national was found out when he used a woman's stolen credit card to buy two items worth S$2,500 at a jewellery shop at VivoCity.

Dandar Enerel, 25, was sentenced to a total of 21 months on Monday for dishonestly receiving a stolen POSB Everyday MasterCard bearing the name of Yeo Jia Yeh and conspiring with a fellow Mongolian national to cheat at Aspial-Lee Hwa Jewellery at Harbourfront Walk on Dec 19.

A district court heard that Dandar and his accomplice named Bataa went to Sentosa that day after meeting up at Aljunied MRT station.

While on their way out of Sentosa, the accomplice showed Dandar a DBS Gold Visa credit card and a POSB Everyday MasterCard which he had stolen from Ms Yeo Jia Yeh. Dandar kept them in his wallet.

The two went to Aspial Lee Hwa Jewellery at VivoCity and chose a diamond ring and a white gold bracelet totalling S$2,500.

Dandar then produced the POSB card for payment. After swiping the card, a staff member of the store noticed that it bore a woman's name and felt suspicious. A colleague checked with the bank, which confirmed that the rightful owner was a woman.

Security officers of VivoCity were called and they detained Dandar, who was also found to have Ms Yeo's DBS Visa gold credit card. Bataa left before he could be nabbed.

Another cheating charge was taken into consideration.
