JAKARTA - AN EARTHQUAKE measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shook the northern part of Indonesia's Sulawesi island on Thursday but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, a meteorology official said.

The undersea quake was centred 118 km northwest of Gorontalo at a depth of 35 km, said Andi Zulfikar of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency.

The United States Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 6.0.
