MARYLAND - US PRESIDENT George W. Bush, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso agreed on Saturday to a series of summits on the global financial crisis, a joint statement said.
The first summit of heads of government is to be held in the United States 'soon after the US elections' on Nov 4, the statement read.
The world leaders will 'review progress being made to address the current crisis and to seek agreement on principles of reform needed to avoid a repetition and assure global prosperity in the future,' the statement read.
Later summits 'would be designed to implement agreement on specific steps to be taken to meet those principles,' the statement read, giving no specific dates.
According to the statement the three leaders 'had a very positive discussion' about continuing to coordinate steps needed to solve the crisis.
Mr Sarkozy and Mr Barroso arrived on Saturday for a three-hour meeting with Bush at the president's retreat at Camp David, outside the US capital.
Just before the meeting, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon said he backed the idea of a summit by early December at the latest.
Mr Sarkozy, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, is seeking a bold relaunching of the international financial system.
