Stephen King's bestsellers return to haunt on screen

The Straits Times

STEPHEN King made his name in horror literature but he has made an impact in cinema too, via movie adaptations of his novels.

The latest tieup is The Mist which is about a fog that rolls into a Maine community and traps townsfolk in a supermarket. The film opens in Singapore on Thursday.

It is directed by Frank Darabont who also helmed two movies, The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Green Mile (1999), which were based on King's novels.

Industry sources say his works translate into film because his stories are driven not so much by horror but by the people affected by horror, and viewers can identify with that.
