NEVADA, US - SINGERS Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel plan to stage their first joint concert in New York next month to raise funds for Democrat Barack Obama's presidential bid, his campaign said on Tuesday.
The Illinois senator plans to attend the rockers' gig at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on October 16, the day after his third and final debate with Republican opponent John McCain, an Obama aide said.
Tickets for the expensive fundraiser will range from US$500 (S$717) for balcony seats to US$10,000 for up-close 'lounge' seats, the aide said, confirming a report by the Huffington Post website.
Springsteen, renowned for his gritty parables of American working-class life, wrote in April that Mr Obama was the best candidate to lead a 'great American reclamation project' to mend the 'terrible damage' of Republican rule.
'The Boss' objected bitterly to Republican president Ronald Reagan's use of his anthem Born in the USA at campaign rallies.
The song is actually an angry denunciation of society's treatment of returning Vietnam War veterans. -- AFP
