SAN FRANCISCO, US - ACTRESS Zsa Zsa Gabor has lost at least $7 million (S$10.52 million) as a result of investments with accused financial swindler Bernard Madoff, her lawyer said on Saturday.

The losses could be as much as $10 million, lawyer Chris Fields said.

He added that Gabor, who is listed in entertainment reference sites as being 91, was not taking the damage to her nest egg well, having only discovered it in recent weeks.

The Hungarian-born actress, famed for her rich husbands and calling everyone 'Darling', suffered a stroke in 2005.

Madoff, 70, is accused of running a worldwide fraud that authorities say may have cost investors $50 billion. The once-respected money manager is out on $10 million bail and living under guard in his Manhattan penthouse apartment.

A foundation run by Oscar-winning film director Steven Spielberg has suffered losses due to an investment connected to Madoff.

Actor Kevin Bacon and his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, also suffered Madoff-related losses, New York magazine reported.

Gabor, now married to Prince Frederic von Anhalt, starred in such films as 'Moulin Rouge', 'Lili' and 'Touch of Evil', and was one of three glamorous sisters who stole the Hollywood limelight in the 1950s and 1960s.

In a widely publicised incident in 1989, she slapped a Beverly Hills police officer who pulled her over for a traffic violation. She was ordered to serve a brief stint in jail. -- REUTERS
