Anita Sarawak and hubby attacked by robbers

By Andrew Sagayam

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Entertainer Anita Sarawak and her husband Mahathir Abdullah were attacked by four parang-wielding robbers in Taman Melawati yesterday. The robbers fled on two motorcycles after Mahathir fought back.

Mahathir, an Englishman, suffered a slash wound at the back of his head and was taken to Prince Court Medical Centre in Jalan Tun Razak, where he is reported to be stable.

The two were attacked while on their way to pick up Anita's stepmother, veteran actress Datin Umi Kalthum.

The couple had waited in the car while their driver Tan Ah Sing, 52, had gone out to call Umi at 6pm.

Tan was cornered and assaulted by the four who robbed him of his wallet and handphone.

Mahathir told his wife to remain in the car and to lock all doors while he went to his driver's aid.

"As he tried to ward them off, my husband was slashed on the back of his head. The robbers fled the scene when they saw neighbours coming out of their homes to help," Anita, 57, said at the hospital here yesterday.

Anyone with information can contact the Ampang Jaya police headquarters at 03-4252 2222 or the nearest police station.
