60-second interview with Rossi Morreale

my paper

By Kenny Chee

TELEVISION addicts will remember former reality show star Rossi Morreale for his stint as a "tempter" on Temptation Island in 2002.

Now, the 32-year-old hosts Belly Of The Beast, a show with a very different agenda.

It aims to give viewers the inside scoop on the workings of the latest big machines, from mining trucks to helicopters and tanks.

my paper spoke with Morreale about his experiences.

Is this gig on Belly Of The Beast a dream come true for you?

Yes! As a kid, I grew up loving machines and the army, playing with plastic guns and watching Rambo movies.

So to get the chance to do that in a small way as an adult is a really awesome experience.

How did you go from playing male bait trying to tempt female contestants away from their boyfriends to hosting?

I was 24 and didn't have a job when I was scouted for Temptation Island, and I did that just for fun.

After the show wrapped, I worked as a casting director.

We were casting hosts (for another show, Junkyard Wars) and I realised a lot of people had a hard time being themselves.

I taped an audition of myself without anybody knowing, but the TV station eventually saw it.

They later wanted me to host the show.

You got to pilot some of the machines in the series. What was that like?

I learnt that piloting a helicopter is tough.

Trying to get it to hover is the most difficult thing.

At one point, the helicopter almost hit the ground.

If it had, its tail would have broken off and it would've spun out of control.

Belly Of The Beast airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on Discovery Channel (StarHub Ch 12).
