SHEFFIELD (England) - MANCHESTER City's misery at bowing out of the fourth round of the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side Sheffield United here on Sunday was compounded when they discovered that money had been stolen from their dressing room at Bramall Lane.
'At some stage during the course of the afternoon, and not necessarily during the course of the 90 minutes, a theft took place,' said a United spokesman.
'The theft involved money stolen from wallets in the City dressing room, believed to be an amount between 1500 pounds (S$4,226) and 2000 pounds.'
'South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield United and Manchester City are working together to investigate this matter.' City spokesman Paul Tyrrell told Sky Sports News: 'A number of staff and players have had a quantity of cash stolen.
'I am not aware that the dressing room was locked. The police are looking into it.' Premier League visitors City were beaten 2-1 as the Blades advanced to the last 16 of the FA Cup.
Luton Shelton and Jon Stead scored for United in the first-half, and although substitute Daniel Sturridge pulled one back for City early in the second half, Sven-Goran Eriksson's side couldn't force a replay.
The fifth round draw takes place on Monday. -- AFP
