SINGAPORE has set up the Organising Committee for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2010.
The 22-member Committee comprises individuals from the public, private and people sectors, and is chaired by Ng Ser Miang, who also sits on the International Olympic Committee as an Executive Board member.
Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, who appointed Mr Ng as chairman on Monday, said: 'Singapore YOG Organising Committee has been entrusted with the heavy responsibility of staging the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in just under two-and-a-half years.'
'This is a big challenge but I am confident that, with the expertise and resources that the Board has, coupled with the leadership of Ng Ser Miang, Singapore will give the young athletes participating..a truly memorable and exciting Games,' he said.
A Panel of Advisors has also been set up to assist the Committee. The Panel comprises 4 members - Defence Minister and President of the Singapore National Olympic Council Teo Chee Hean, Parliamentary Secretary (MCYS) Teo Ser Luck, Finance and Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
In addition, an Inter-Ministry Committee has also been established to support the work of the Singapore YOG Organising Committee, chaired by Permanent Secretary (MCYS), Mr Niam Chiang Meng.
A further five Committees in areas of Sports, Culture & Education, Community Outreach, Youth engagement and Business & Marketing will also be set up.
