Brazil match is unique

We refer to the letter 'When will it truly be the final game?' (my paper, July 22).

While the National Stadium is officially closed for events, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) assesses requests to use the stadium on a case-by-case basis, and will consider allowing it to be only used in exceptional circumstances.

In this instance, the Football Association of Singapore approached SSC with a unique opportunity that rarely comes by.

Many Singaporeans would not want to miss watching a world-class football team like the Brazilian Olympic team, which features renowned players such as Ronaldinho, play live.

Other than the National Stadium, alternative stadiums in Singapore would be able to seat only up to 6,000 people, which would reduce the chances for Singaporeans to catch this special match.

After considering all the factors, the SSC decided to reopen the National Stadium to allow more Singaporeans to have the opportunity to watch the match.

We thank Mr Chiam Chiah Sern for his feedback.
