SINGAPORE swimmer Tao Li is back in Olympic competition after her impressive 5th place finish in the 100-metre butterfly event yesterday.

This time, she set a new national record in the women's 200-metre butterfly heats earlier this evening, with a time of 2 min 12.63 sec. Her latest effort bettered her previous mark of 2 min 13.20 sec, set at the 4th Singapore National Championships in June.

However, she came in fifth in her heat and did not qualify for the semi-finals.

Earlier on Monday, Tao Li became the first Singapore swimmer to win a spot in an Olympic final. During the heats on Sunday, she smashed the Asian record for 100-metre butterfly, clocking 57.54 sec.
