PARIS, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Striker Thierry Henry has been named as France captain for Wednesday's friendly against Sweden in the absence of the injured Patrick Vieira, coach Raymond Domenech said on Tuesday.
"He has all the attributes and qualities needed," Domenech told reporters although he declined to say if Barcelona's Henry would keep the armband when Vieira returns from injury.
"He's captain of the French team as long as Pat isn't there," he said. "We've seen various people have had (injury) problems over recent seasons. I'm not committing to anything."
Henry has been captain before, notably at Euro 2008 when Vieira was injured, and the striker said he was keen to contribute to the team's revival after a disappointing campaign.
"I still want to give something. It's my duty," Henry said. "There's a new generation but there always has to be someone to show the way.
"I've got quite a lot of top level experience, I know the new generation that's coming through quite well, I've always felt quite young," he added.
